Aerial Technique

Beginning Aerial Silk:

Class Description: This beginner-­‐level class teaches basic aerial dance technique, which serves as a general foundation for all aerial arts. Students perform skills on the silk fabric apparatus, which involve climbing techniques, basic poses and other skills that will improve strength & muscle tone, balance, flexibility, and grace. As students become stronger, they will advance to more difficult skills involving inversions, foot/hand locks, hip keys, skill combinations/transitions, and basic drops. Level: Beginner level class; suitable for students with little/no experience and also intermediate-­‐level students. No pre-­‐requisite required to enroll/attend class.

Multi-­‐Level Aerial Silk:

Class Description: This class will improve aerial technique and performance quality, building on skills learned in Introduction To Aerial Arts (workshop) & Beginning Silk. Students will continue to gain strength through conditioning exercises performed during class, while learning more Intermediate & Advanced level skills from professional aerialists! Students will learn more difficult poses & drops, exciting skill combinations, and creative choreography! Level: Multi-­‐level class; suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced level students.

Mixed Apparatus:

Class Description: This multi-­‐level class allows students to experience several specialty aerial apparatus that are not normally used in group classes, such as Spanish Web, Cloud Swing, Aerial Net, Hand Loop Choreography, Straps, Harness Work, Aerial Cube, Bungee, and Trapeze. Half the class time will be spent learning new skills on one or more chosen specialty apparatus, then the second half will be used as a sort of "directed practice." Standard apparatus (including Silk, Hammock & Aerial Hoop) will also be available, allowing students to work on existing skill sets. This class is a great way for aerialists to challenge themselves & expand one's horizons through new aerial techniques! Level: Multi-­‐Level; all levels welcome. (Some specialty apparatus may require some intermediate/advanced skills, however, students may work at their own speed/level.)

Children's Intro to Aerial Arts:

Class Description: This class is designed for new students ages 7 to 12 who wish to become acquainted with Aerial Arts. No prior aerial experience is necessary. 'Intro To Aerial Arts' will help students develop the fundamental skills used in aerial acrobatics, as well as strength and flexibility. Instructors will focus on safety, body awareness and correct technique as students experience a variety of aerial apparatuses including (but not limited to) Silk, Hammock, and Aerial Hoop. The class begins with a short warm-­‐up, consisting of conditioning and flexibility exercises, and then moves into aerial skill instruction, in which basic skills, tricks & combinations are taught. Instructors give one-­‐on-­‐one help to students who need special modifications based on their level/limitations, or to students who wish to challenge themselves with slightly more advanced skills. 'Intro to Aerial Arts' is a great way to begin learning aerial technique, and also allowing young students to explore multiple aerial dance disciplines. Level: Beginner level class; suitable for students with little/no experience. No pre-­‐requisite required to enroll/attend.

Aerial Duet & Choreography:

Class Description: Aerial duets can be performed in a variety of ways; whether two females spin in unison as an exciting "doubles act," or two males display their stregnth as an "aerial duo," or a couple performs a romantic "aerial adagio." This class allows advanced students to explore "duet choreography" in many new, creative forms. Students will learn to fly as partners, executing spin combinations, synchronized acrobatic skills, and duet strength moves called "porting." Students do not need to recruit a partner to attend class, as each person will be paired with several others during each class. Level: intermediate through advanced; Instructor permission required to attend class

Aerial Hoop/Lyra:

Class Description: In this class, students will be introduced to the spinning circular apparatus called a Lyra or Aerial Hoop. This versatile apparatus is exciting & challenging. First, students learn how to safely mount, dismount, hang & spin on this apparatus. Basic aerial skills are reinforced as students learn progressively more difficult skills & short combinations with focus on developing whole-­‐body control, coordination & strength. More experienced students will focus on developing spin velocity, and other intermediate & advanced skills such as inversions, and complex transitions. Students will master tricks that are sure to impress audiences! Level: Beginner/Intermediate level class; no pre-­‐requisite necessary but students are encouraged to enroll first in Introduction To Aerial Arts to build strength & technique.

Silk Hammock:

Class Description: This class introduces students to the silk hammock aerial apparatus, a longer, more versatile version of the apparatus used for Anti-­‐Gravity Yoga fitness classes. It is similar in appearance to aerial silk, but requires less initial upper-­‐body strength-­‐ making it a great apparatus for beginners to start developing basic aerial technique, build core strength & endurance! This apparatus highlights the performer's flexibility and demands control using fluid transitions. Beginners will first learn to move gracefully in and out of the silk, developing confidence on the aerial apparatus. Students will learn progressively more difficult hammock poses & transitions structured around a short sequence of lyrical choreography. More experienced students may begin working on more advanced skills such as spins & inversions

*Aerial Cube:

Class Description: Aerial Cube, performed as a solo or group act, highlights the intricate shapes, angles and lines created by this spinning aerial apparatus. In this class, students use the cube structure to contort their bodies, creating graceful living sculptures in midair! Students will learn transition techniques and other skill combinations used to create performance choreography, while also building strength and stamina. Level: Beginner through Advanced levels, Pre-­‐requisite and/or instructor permission required. (Private coaching or small group training is recommended for this apparatus due to limited availability.)

 

Aerial Ballet:

Class Description: In this class, students will learn to use a variety of aerial equipment to take dance to new heights! This class explores a combination of aerial dance skills & classical ballet technique, using aerial equipment such as silk, hoop & harness. Students will focus on graceful aerial combinations, fluid movement, and control with creative aerial choreography. Dancers will improve balance & flexibility, while also developing strength & coordination. Aerial Ballet is perfect for dancers wishing to transition into the "aerial world." Students will perform ballet choreography suspended in midair, an exciting alternative to traditional ballet class. Level: All levels welcome: beginner through advanced; suitable for students with little/no experience. No pre-­‐requisite required to enroll/attend.

Spanish Web/Rope:

Class Description: In this class, students will learn to perform on a rope-­‐like apparatus, called a "Web." Students will learn several climbing techniques, locks, knots and acrobatic poses on this apparatus in the stationary position. More experienced students will learn to spin while locked into wrist or ankle loops, creating exciting & dynamic shapes. Students will master speed and control, while transitioning through acrobatic skills with fluidity. "Web Setting," will also be taught during class. This refers to the act of spinning the rope while standing beneath the performer, using enough power to create Centrifugal Force, pushing the performer's body into dynamic spinning positions. This important skill enhances upper body strengthen, endurance and teaches students to act as a team. This specialty class provides an adrenaline rush that students of all levels crave! Level: All levels welcome: beginner through advanced. No pre-­‐requisite required to enroll/attend.

Aerial Workshops

Introduction To Aerial Arts Workshop:

Program Description: This 6 week Workshop is highly recommended for new students with little, or no aerial experience, that want to learn the basics. This is a structured program organized like a course integrating aspects of aerial safety, technique, and fitness. Introduction To Aerial Arts is designed to introduce students to a variety of aerial apparatuses including (but not limited to) Aerial Silk (also known as Tissue or Chiffon), Aerial Hammock, and Lyra (also known as Aerial Hoop), and teaches the basic skills needed to perform aerial acrobatics. Each class begins with a short warm-­‐up, consisting of conditioning & flexibility exercises, and then moves into aerial skill instruction, in which basic beginner & intermediate technique, tricks & combinations are taught. AntiGravity instructors will give one-­‐on-­‐one attention to students who need special modifications based on their level/limitations, or to students who wish to challenge themselves with slightly more advanced skills. "Intro. To Aerial Arts" is a great way to strengthen one's aerial technique, and also explore multiple aerial dance disciplines, which may help new students discover their favorite apparatus. Level: Beginner level class; suitable for students with little/no experience and also intermediate-­‐level students. No pre-­‐requisite required to enroll/attend class. Schedule: This workshop class meets twice a week for 6 weeks. This class is exclusive to students that have registered and paid for the workshop, and is not open to NTF students using "class passes." Private Lessons (also available as Small-­‐Group Training):

Class Description: Students may enroll in Private Lessons for one-­‐on-­‐one instruction with Anti-­‐ Gravity professional aerialists-­‐ at any skill level! Private coaching is available for anyone who needs or would prefer individual, one-­‐on-­‐one attention, or whose needs are not met by the classes offered (For example, students may request a specialized piece of equipment that is not normally offered on our class schedule). Your private coach will tailor the lesson to your individual needs/desires at a pace that you are comfortable with. Most private lessons are an hour in length, and include a warm-­‐up with stretching, instruction, and cool down. Private Coaching Packages may also be available for students, or for groups with less than 4 individuals. Contact us today for scheduling availability! Level: All levels from beginner through advanced (Instructors are trained to challenge or modify exercises for each individual based on any personal issues/limitations one may have).

Open Gym:

Class Description: Open gym gives students the freedom to choose which apparatuses they'd like to train on, and which skills they'd like to focus on individually. Instructors provide a safe environment for students to train in, and closely monitor the use of specialized equipment. Various aerial apparatuses, such as Silk, Aerial Hoop/Lyra, Hammock, Spanish Web & Cube, will be available during this time. Open gym serves as optimal time for aerialists to rehearse their own choreography or to work on skills learned in previous classes. *Permission from Administration is required to use certain equipment (such as Trampoline Wall, AG Boots, Chinese Poles, Bungee, etc.). Please call ahead for availability. Level: All levels, ages 16+

Boot Camp Extreme Fitness:

Class Description: Boot Camp Extreme Fitness is designed to challenge individuals using a variety of fitness techniques. The goal of this program is to help each participant accomplish their own personal goals through cardiovascular exercises, strength and conditioning, and other "cross-­‐fit" type workouts. Whether your fitness goals include weight loss, increased muscle definition, or maintaining a healthy physique, Boot Camp can benefit you. The program will improve confidence and help individuals gain valuable fitness & nutritional knowledge, learn safe/correct form while working out, and enjoy the social aspect created by this "team" atmosphere. The program will improve one's overall sense of wellness, and will motivate students to make permanent healthy lifestyle changes. Level: This program is suitable for all levels. (Potential students are encouraged to call & schedule personal one-­‐on-­‐one appointment with trainer to discuss goals prior to enrollment.)

Student Performing Opportunities!

Apprentice Program

The Apprenticeship Program is dedicated to the school's most advanced students. Only 3-5 students are selected through an educational audition process. These individuals are given leadership responsibilities at the school and offered various opportunities to perform with AntiGravity ® in small roles. These opportunities include performing in the theatre show and in "atmosphere-type" gigs for AntiGravity ®'s corporate division. This gives students performance experience, which is extremely important for individuals who wish to become professional performers one day. Students will accumulate valuable experience that will prepare them for the future in any performance-type work, while also being trained to become polished AntiGravity ® performers. Several performing opportunities will be paid gigs in which students can make extra money. Auditions will provide students with tangible goals to strive for.


 

Fitness & Fundamentals

AntiGravity Yoga (Hammock Yoga):

Class Description: In this fitness class, the AntiGravity Hammock is used as a yoga prop to stretch and hold challenging positions. The hammock acts as a soft trapeze, supporting you as you master simple suspension techniques leading to advanced inverted poses. The class is a complete workout that incorporates cardio, strength training, flexibility, conditioning, joint decompression, zero-­‐compression inversions, and improves body awareness. AntiGravity Yoga also helps decompress tight joints, relieving pressure while aligning the vertebrae of the spine without strain. (*Other Specialized AntiGravity Yoga Classes: AntiGravity® Yoga: Foundations, Flying Fitness 1, Restorative, Mommy & Me, Pilates, Flying Fitness 2, Couples.) Level: This class is recommended for all students, beginners through advanced. No experience is necessary.

Cirque-­‐It Fitness:

Class Description: This class focuses on improving one's physical fitness level using a variety of aerial apparatuses and other fitness equipment. This class is taught by certified personal trainers in a 'group exercise' type format. The class is structured as a high-­‐energy cross-­‐training workout, in a circuit style format. Students will learn creative, exercises to improve stamina, strength, endurance, and overall cardiovascular fitness. Students will experience quick, vast improvements in muscle tone and energy level. This is an exciting way to overcome any fitness plateau, or to supplement one's aerial technique classes in preparation for advanced aerial training. You will never experience such an intense, unique & challenging-­‐ yet surprisingly enjoyable-­‐ workout as Cirque-­‐It! Level: All levels welcome! Suitable for all levels from beginner through advanced (Instructors are trained to challenge or modify exercises for each individual based on any personal issues/limitations one may have), ages 16+

Ballet-­‐n-­‐Tone:

Class Description: In this dance/fitness class, students will learn to utilize basic ballet principles to strengthen the core, and to sculpt & lengthen muscles for a lean & toned "ballet body." Training in ballet technique can improve posture, body awareness and musicality. Students will learn correct alignment, and will increase overall flexibility with this total body Pilates-­‐like workout. The class consists of cardio-­‐conditioning exercises, graceful dance moves and basic ballet barre exercises. Ballet-­‐n-­‐Tone class is taught in a casual format, unlike the traditional "ballet barre" type technique class. Students learn "floor-­‐barre" by laying down on mats, and also standing exercises using equipment or by performing skills across the floor. Enhance your lean dancer's physique with this creative workout. Level: No dance/ballet experience is necessary. All levels welcome; no pre-­‐requisite.

Break-­‐Dance (Hip Hop):

Class Description: Break-­‐Dancing is a mixture of street dance, martial arts, gymnastics, hip hop dance technique, and personal style. This dance class will teach students basic Break-­‐Dancing moves/choreography in a fun, casual format. Students will build strength, confidence, stamina, and style while they learn progressively more challenging combinations of dance moves. Level: All levels welcome! No pre-­‐requisite required to enroll/attend class.

Pole Dance Fitness:

Class Description: Pole-­‐La-­‐Teaze class is a unique combination of Pole-­‐Dance Fitness, Pilates exercises, and acrobatic skills. This class will help students engage the core and build upper body strength, while improving flexibility and elongating muscles for a toned silhouette. As students gain strength and stability, more advanced acrobatic tricks will be demonstrated. This class takes place in the upstairs Dance Loft and is open to students over the age of 16 (unless given permission from parent.) Absolutely no nudity or "stripping" is permitted, and both men & women are welcome in class. Level: All levels, ages 16+ only. No pre-­‐requisite required to enroll/attend class.

Tumbling: Class Description:

This multi-­‐level class teaches students basic tumbling skills, correct technique and other gymnastics fundamentals. Students will focus on developing good form, control and strength, which is extremely useful for improving aspects of other Extreme Sports/Acrobatic activities. AntiGravity's expert trainers recommend this class to students who have future aspirations of participating in advanced-­‐skill activities such as AntiGravity Boots, trampoline or aerial acrobatics. The skills taught in this class are extremely useful and necessary to building a strong acrobatic foundation. Level: All levels are welcome, beginner through advanced. Trainer will work with individuals on a one-­‐on-­‐one basis as needed.

Flexibility (with Toning) Class:

Class Description: This supplemental class is recommended for everyone! Students will focus on increasing flexibility & range of motion using intensive static & active stretching techniques derived from various disciplines including dance, gymnastics, yoga & martial arts. Working individually & in small groups, students will perform flexibility exercises that will improve one's pike, straddle, split, as well as shoulder and back flexibility. Part of the class will also be spent on developing strength and stability, in order to improve aerial skill control, using various intense Pilates & Ballet-­‐Toning exercises. Other conditioning exercises utilizing resistance bands & other strength-­‐training equipment will tone & sculpt muscle. This class will teach students to identify, relax, lengthen, strengthen, and stretch all parts of the body in a safe manner. Level: All levels welcome! Suitable for all levels from beginner through advanced (Instructors are trained to challenge or modify exercises for each individual based on any personal issues/limitations one may have).

Extreme Acrobatics

AntiGravity Boots:

Class Description: AntiGravity Boots are used by AG performers as an Extreme Acrobatic apparatus, in which spring-­‐loaded stilts launch athletes in mid-­‐air! This type of extreme equipment is reserved for use by only advanced & experienced performers. The AG Boots are an exciting tool for artistic expression, and the cardiovascular workout that they provide jumpers is very challenging. Special permission is required to attend this class. Students can expect to learn exciting new tricks, jump combos and flips, as well as safety techniques. This class will help performer improve form, core & leg strength, balance, coordination, and stamina. 2 Levels: Intro to AG Boots for Advanced-­‐level athletes only. New students require permission to attend class. AG Boots Skills & Tricks for Professional athletes only. Permission required to attend class. Workshops available on limited basis.

*Cyr Wheel:

Class Description: The Cyr Wheel is considered an advanced specialty discipline in which a solid steel 7-­‐foot ring is used as a performance apparatus. The wheel requires strength & technique to manipulate with control, balance and precision. Students will learn to articulate fluid movement on the apparatus, and will master intricate patterns using the Cyr Wheel. This discipline is taught only during Private Coaching. Level: Special permission required to enroll. Pre-­‐requisites may apply.

Extreme Acro Sports (Mixed Apparatus):

Class Description: AntiGravity's trademark "athletic performance style" is the combination of extreme sports and artistic expression. This exciting multi-­‐level class allows students to learn these specialty skills and to experience several acrobatic sports disciplines that are not normally available to take in group classes, such as Trampoline, Chinese Poles, Extreme Pogo Stick, Wall Running with Harness, German Wheel, and Bungee. Part of class will be spent learning new skills on one or more chosen specialty apparatuses, and part of class will be used for conditioning exercises & to train the technical skills needed to perform Extreme Acro Sports. This class challenges gymnasts to explore advanced acrobatic techniques, and allows Extreme Sports Enthusiasts to test their skills on the newest AntiGravity toys! Level: Multi-­‐Level class. Athletic experience is recommended. New students must have permission to attend class.

*Bungee: Class Description:

Bungee (also called Dancing Bungee) is an exhilarating specialty discipline in which the performer is suspended in midair by elastic cords, allowing the individual to bounce, flip and spin. Bungee skills include dynamic jump patterns, partner work and other advanced acrobatic skills. This discipline is scheduled during some Mixed Apparatus Workshops and during special master's classes, and private coaching. Level: Special permission required to enroll.

Stilts:

Class Description: Stilts are used mostly by professional performers during "atmospheric sets," in which they are costumed to portray a character. The stilts allow performers to tower over audiences, making their elaborate costumes more visible. AntiGravity utilizes both "peg," and "drywall" style stilts, which are strapped on at the foot, ankle, and knee and give the walker great versatility. Skills taught using stilts include proper walking & falling techniques, character development and minimal dance patterns. Students will learn to utilize their stilts with confidence after only a few class sessions. Instruction is available in group formats, or during private lessons. Level: All levels available. Please inquire about private lessons.

*Trampoline:

Class Description: AntiGravity athletes utilize trampolines for acrobatic performance, or for sports fitness purposes. A typical trampoline apparatus consists of strong elastic-­‐like fabric stretched over a steel frame with coiled springs used by performers to bounce & flip. Exciting, and potentially dangerous tricks are performed by professional acrobats on state-­‐of-­‐the-­‐art trampoline equipment designed by AntiGravity. These skills are taught with private coaching, on a very limited basis. Other cross-­‐training applications & sports skill development is available for instruction during private lessons also. Level: Special permission required to enroll.

*Chinese Poles:

Class Description: Chinese Poles are vertical poles of aluminum on which acrobats climb, hold poses & perform trick combinations, demonstrating incredible strength & control. These skills require a very strong upper body & core strength, as well as correct alignment & gymnastic technique. The poles are generally about 10 feet in height and approximately 3 to 4 inches in diameter. This specialized equipment is available for use only during private coaching sessions. Level: Special permission required to enroll.

*Wire/Harness Work:

Class Description: Several advanced aerial skills & stunt-­‐work can be performed using specialized harnesses. The AntiGravity Theatre features two custom-­‐designed aerial tracks: a state-­‐of-­‐the-­‐art "Wall Running Track" and a "Fly-­‐By-­‐Wire Track." This innovative aerial equipment allows individuals to perform unique acrobatic harness work suspended 40 feet off the ground! Various advanced tricks & specialized skills are taught using single & double point harnesses. Private coaching for this discipline is available on a very limited basis. Level: Special permission required to enroll.

Tumble, Trick, Tramp:

Class Description: This "trampoline-­‐combo" class integrates acrobatic tumbling techniques, and impressive tricking sequences into a fun class that focuses on basic through advanced skills. Highly trained, professional performers will teach students trampoline safety, correct technique, and body alignment. Students will use mini tramps, crash mats, the large Trampoline Wall, and AntiGravity's one-­‐of-­‐a-­‐kind Trampoline Staircase to learn a variety of flips, bounce combos, and flashy "tricking" sequences. This class will challenge students, and also improve overall fitness, gymnastic skill & stamina. Level: Multi-­‐Level class, no experience necessary.

Stunt Fighting:

Class Description: This class uses realistic fighting techniques, and exciting stunt sequences to help actors, extreme sports athletes, & martial artists develop the skills needed for all kinds of stunt work! Students will learn a variety of fighting styles, including fight choreography & "tricking skills." This class is also a great cardiovascular workout, and will challenge your inner "Ninja Warrior!" Level: Multi-­‐Level class, no experience necessary. Ages 16+ only.
